Radio Network to Webcast National Package of NWBL Games |
WSRN to present live coverage of NWBL regular season and Pro-Cup Tournament games Sports Radio Network (WSRN), the exclusive internet broadcast partner of the National Women's Basketball League (NWBL), is pleased to announce that it has added an extensive 13-game national package of regular season games to go along with coverage of the 2003 NWBL Pro-Cup Tournament to its spring schedule. The web-based station, which has enjoyed a relationship with the NWBL dating back to last year, will kick off its coverage this Sunday afternoon as the Springfield Spirit, led by University of Connecticut graduates Sue Bird and Swin Cash play host to Tamicha Jackson, and the 2002 Pro-Cup champion Houston Stealth live from the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. WSRN's webcast, which can be accessed from Sports Radio Network's official website http://www.sportsradionet.com, will get underway at 2:30 with a 30-minute pre-game show, preceding the Stealth-Spirit tip-off. "We are extremely pleased to be able to continue our relationship with Sports Radio Network," said NWBL president Patrick Alexander. "We feel that their (WSRN's) coverage and the exposure that this broadcast package will give us will help our league continue to evolve and grow in popularity." Following Sunday's league opener, Sports Radio Network will continue its season-long coverage on Thursday, Feb. 6 as Springfield entertains Tennessee. Other games that have been confirmed to hit Sports Radio Network's web waves include: Springfield @ Birmingham on Friday, Feb. 14, Springfield at Grand Rapids on Monday, Feb. 17, Tennessee at Chicago on Sunday, March 9, Tennessee at Grand Rapids on Tuesday, March 11, Houston at Springfield on Thursday, March 13, Springfield at Tennessee on Saturday, March 15, Springfield at Birmingham on Thursday, March 27, Springfield at Chicago on Thursday, April 3, Tennessee at Chicago on Friday, April 4, Tennessee at Grand Rapids on Saturday, April 5 and Grand Rapids at Springfield on Thursday, April 10. The 2003 Pro-Cup Tournament will take place on the weekend of April 11-13. "We are excited to continue our relationship with the NWBL," said Sports Radio Network CEO Rob Goldenberg. "The response to our coverage last year is proof positive that sports webcasting has a true niche in this marketplace." "I am confident that this year's coverage will prove once again to be mutually beneficial for both Sports Radio Network and the NWBL." Sports Radio Network debuted its NWBL coverage at the start of the 2002 season with a regular season game between Houston and Springfield and concluded with the webcasting of the 2002 Pro-Cup Tournament from the Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. In December, Sports Radio Network returned to the web waves by carrying the 2003 NWBL Draft live from the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield, Massachusetts. Sports Radio Network, a full-service broadcasting outlet for amateur and professional sports, has already gained recognition as a leader in web-based sports programming. In 2001, Sports Radio Network burst on to the scene with its live and exclusive coverage of the United States Basketball League's (USBL) Long Island Surf franchise. Following its presentation of 13 regular season games, the station carried the 2001 USBL post-season tournament. Once again in 2002, the internet-based station was the exclusive home to the USBL Post-Season Festival, with fans in more than 15 countries, including Canada, Israel, Australia, France, Great Britain, Switzerland and Belgium listening to the webcasts. Not only did Sports Radio Network provide audio coverage of the post-season festival via the internet, but the play-by-play voices of Rob Goldenberg and Alon Avital were used by Pegasys Video of Enid, Oklahoma for their highly-heralded television broadcasts. Most recently, Sports Radio Network and the New York Collegiate Athletic Conference (NYCAC) finalized a deal to webcast a comprehensive package of men's and women's basketball for the 2002-2003 season.
