Live Coverage of Springfield vs. Houston at 7:15 PM Friday Night (2/8/02)

Sports Radio Network (WSRN) has reached an agreement with The National Women's Basketball League (NWBL) to be its official broadcast partner, presenting live audio game coverage of selected games this season.

The internet-based station will debut its game coverage this Friday night with a match-up between the Houston Stealth and the host Springfield Spirit live from a sold out Mohegan Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut.

WSRN's pre-game coverage will commence at 7:15 with the tip-off set for 7:30.

The webcast, which will be presented live and exclusively on the internet, can be accessed from Sports Radio Network's official website at http://www.sportsradionet.com.

"We are very excited to enter into this partnership with the NWBL," said play-by-play announcer
and WSRN's CEO Rob Goldenberg.

"This is a great opportunity to be involved with world class athletes in a sport that continues to grow in popularity."

Sports Radio Network's coverage of the NWBL began with the league's 2002 Draft on December 22nd live from the Basketball Hall of Fame Museum in Springfield, Massachussetts. With over four hours of live draft day coverage, the event provided WSRN with its largest listening audience in its young history.

"We were very impressed with Sports Radio Network's draft coverage," said NWBL Executive Officer Patrick Alexander. "Based on the feedback , we felt that webcasting the game would not only be a great benefit to the league, but to our fans across the country, who will have the opportunity to listen live."

The league maintains that utilizing the emerging technologies, which the internet offers will be key in the success of its growth.

"We are a league that is very unique and very creative. Taking advantage of new technologies like internet broadcasting on Sports Radio Network is a testament to the kinds of things that we are going to be doing to promote ourselves," Alexander said.

Friday night's tilt between Springfield and Houston will signal the return of professional women's basketball in the New England area.

WSRN's broadcast team will feature Goldenberg and color analyst Alon Avital behind the mic.

"It is extremely exciting," Avital said. "The New England fans are rabid and there is no question the arena will be rocking."

WSRN is attempting to capitalize on the growing popularity of web-based sports programming. It has already partnered with the United States Basketball League.

After webcasting 13 regular season games, for the league's Long Island Surf franchise, WSRN presented exclusive live coverage of the 2001 USBL Championship tournament from Bethlehem, Pennsylvania.

This past year, WSRN also introduced High School Football to its schedule webcasting regular season and playoff games from Long Island, New York.

Dedicated to the production and broadcasting of high quality live sporting events and other sports entertainment, Sports Radio Network is unique in that it targets professional and high school teams that have limited radio and television exposure.

"I feel that there is a legitimate niche that we can fill. By utilizing the technology the internet offers teams can take advantage of a practically limitless audience." said Goldenberg.

Sports Radio Network, who expects to announce a live sports call-in show sometime in the Spring of 2002, is working closely with the NWBL to put the final touches on a schedule that will include an additional slate of games to be webcasted.
