|
WSRN and AAESHOF reach agreement to webcast all upcoming Hall of Fame events live on the internet Sports Radio Network (WSRN) and the African American Ethnic Sports Hall of Fame (AAESHOF) have finalized a multi-year agreement to webcast all upcoming Hall of Fame events live on the internet. The agreement, which will make Sports Radio Network (http://www.sportsradionet.com) the official broadcast partner of the AAESHOF, calls for WSRN to provide the African American Ethnic Sports Hall of Fame internet and radio exposure by webcasting a wide array of Hall of Fame sponsored events; including the annual Super Bowl Celebrity Golf Tournament at the La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, Calif., set for January 20, 2003, the Annual Hall of Fame Induction Ceremonies, set for the weekend of July 11-12, 2003, which will take place this year in Philadelphia, Pa. and the Halls annual Caribbean induction ceremonies, set for the weekend of July 30-August 3, 2003 in St. Croix, Virgin Islands. "We are extremely pleased to be able to take advantage of the continued growth of the internet as it relates to sports programming." said AAESHOF President & Founder Arif Khatib. "Based on their reputation and their emergence in this medium, we feel this partnership with Sports Radio Network will prove to be an integral part of our effort to reach the growing demographic of internet users." Sports Radio Network, which is a full service broadcasting outlet for amateur and professional sports, has already gained recognition as a leader in web-based sports programming. In 2001, Sports Radio Network burst on to the scene with its live and exclusive coverage of the United States Basketball League's (USBL) Long Island Surf franchise. Following its presentation of 13 regular season games, the station carried the 2001 USBL post-season tournament. Once again in 2002, the internet-based
station was the exclusive home to the USBL Post-Season Festival, with
fans in more than 15 countries, including Canada, Israel, Australia,
France, Great Britain, Switzerland and Belgium listening to the webcasts.
Not only did Sports Radio Network provide audio coverage of the post-season
festival via the internet, but the play-by-play voices of Rob Goldenberg
and Alon Avital were used by Pegasys Video of Enid, Oklahoma for their
highly-heralded television broadcasts. In 2003, Sports Radio Network will once again be home to the 2003 NWBL Draft and Pro-Cup tournament and will also expand its coverage to feature regular season games. "Sports Radio Network is excited and gratified to be the AAESHOF's broadcast partner." said Sports Radio Network CEO Rob Goldenberg. "To be involved with a high profile organization like the AAEHOF will not only help us in our continued effort to build webcasting as an alternative form of media, but just as importantly will help to recognize and promote the contributions of African American's and other ethnic groups to sport." The Mission of the African American Ethnic Sports Hall of Fame is to broaden the public's understanding of African American/Ethnic history and the role of diversity and cultural tolerance in the growth of professional sports. The Hall of Fame gives the world the opportunity to better understand the impact African American and other ethnic groups throughout the world have had on American sports and society. "Our vision is to enrich, enlighten and educate our young people while honoring our true heroes from the past," said Khatib, whose Hall is also in the process of launching a program, by which professional athletes would sponsor a deserving student and send them to a historical black university. "It is important to give back to the community and I am proud of our efforts thus far, but we are just beginning to scratch the surface, Khatib said." Over the past two years the Hall of Fame has inducted a total of thirty members, including those enshrined in the Caribbean Sports Hall of Fame. Among the new inductees were legendary boxing promoter Don King and baseball great Roberto Clemente, whose life and career was tragically cut short after he perished in a plane crash.
