Sports Radio Network expands
NYCAC Men's and Women's Basketball Schedule |
Web-based station adds to its NYCAC men's and women's basketball schedule Sports Radio Network (WSRN) has reached an agreement with the New York Collegiate Athletic Conference (NYCAC) to add an additional 10 women's and men's regular season basketball games and an opening round playoff game to its 2002-03 webcast schedule. The newly announced deal is a follow-up to an earlier agreement which introduced Sports Radio Network (http://www.sportsradionet.com) as the live and exclusive internet broadcast partner of the NYCAC and the home to the 2003 NYCAC tournament. The prior agreement called for Sports Radio Network to provide coverage of the conference tournament's semi-final and final rounds, set for the weekend of March 7-8 and to be held at the Pratt Recreation Center on the C.W. Post campus of Long Island University in Brookville, N.Y. "The NYCAC is delighted to have Sports Radio Network continue its coverage of NYCAC basketball action on the web," said NYCAC Commissioner Carmine Calzonetti. "The feedback has been extremely positive, and we believe that the exposure for the member institutions and the student-athletes will give them their just due." Doubleheader action will commence this Saturday afternoon as Concordia faces Mercy in the "Battle of Westchester." Other doubleheaders that have been confirmed to hit Sports Radio Network's web waves include: Southampton @ St. Thomas Aquinas on Saturday, Feb. 1, Philadelphia @ Adelphi on Saturday, Feb. 8, Bridgeport @ St. Thomas Aquinas on Wednesday, Feb. 12, St. Thomas Aquinas @ Adelphi on Saturday, Feb. 15, New York Institute of Technology @ Queens on Tuesday, Feb. 18, St. Thomas Aquinas @ Dowling on Thursday, Feb. 20, C.W. Post @ St. Thomas Aquinas on Saturday, Feb. 22, St. Thomas Aquinas at New York Institute of Technology on Wednesday, Feb. 26 and Philadelphia @ Southampton on Saturday, March 1. The opening round of the 2002-03 NYCAC tournament will take place on Tuesday, March 4. The match-up and site is still yet to be determined. "We are enthusiastic about the prospects of expanding of our coverage." said play-by-play announcer and Sports Radio Network's CEO Rob Goldenberg. "The mounting interest shown by the institutions and the encouraging feedback we have received from listeners is proof positive that sports webcasting has a true niche in this marketplace." Sports Radio Network, which unofficially began its association with the NYCAC Conference at the 2002 NCAA Division II Men's Basketball Championship - Northeast Regional, is a full service internet-based broadcasting outlet for amateur and professional sports. All of the station's webcasts can be accessed from http://www.sportsradionet.com. "We feel that this partnership with the NYCAC can only be beneficial to the outstanding athletes that we have seen during our webcasts," said Alon Avital, color analyst for Sports Radio Network. "The potential is endless." Sports Radio Network, a full service broadcasting outlet for amateur and professional sports, has already gained recognition as a leader in web-based sports programming. With Goldenberg handling play-by-play duties and Avital providing insight, WSRN burst on to the scene in the spring of 2001with live and exclusive coverage of the United States Basketball League's (USBL) Long Island Surf franchise. Following its presentation of 13 regular season games, the station carried the summer's USBL post-season tournament. Once again in 2002, WSRN was the exclusive home to the USBL Post-Season Festival, with fans in more than 15 countries; including Canada, Israel, Australia, France, Great Britain, Switzerland and Belgium listening to the webcasts. Not only did Sports Radio Network provide audio coverage of the post-season festival via the internet, but the voices of Goldenberg and Avital were used by Pegasys Video of Enid, Oklahoma for their highly-heralded television broadcasts. Sports Radio Network continued to break new ground at the start of 2002, as the web-based station partnered with the National Women's Basketball League (NWBL) by becoming the league's official broadcast carrier. With its exclusive live presentation of the 2002 league draft and the spring's NWBL Pro Cup Tournament, Sports Radio Network reached a nationwide audience of fans, validating the rapidly growing appeal of women's professional sports. In December, Sports Radio Network was once again home to the 2003 NWBL Draft. This season, which begins in early February, Sports Radio Network, will webcast a comprehensive package of regular season games and the 2003 Pro-Cup tournament in April.
